Manager, Quality Engineering -- Performance Test Engineering

Job Details:

As a part of the BATS Quality Engineering Department, Performance Test Engineering Manager supports overall quality engineering strategy as related to nonfunctional aspects. This role is accountable for --

  • Developing and executing nonfunctional test plans for ecosystem/program/large projects
  • Managing the activities of a team and enabling the team to meet objectives
  • Establishing and driving strategic and tactical QE initiatives
  • Driving the implementation of QE Program and overall QE process and standards


Execution and Operational Excellence:

  • Responsible for managing test teams and aligning to CNB Quality Engineering practices
  • Responsible for integration of nonfunctional QE resourcing to programs/projects, assuring engagement at the start of the initiative
  • Responsible for managing resources and vendor coordination, driving alignment with CNB practices and efficient usage
  • Effectively communicates and builds rapport with team members, stakeholders and business partners using a variety of techniques and collaboration from initiation to close
  • Facilitates complex group meetings and conducts information gathering sessions
  • Prepares and delivers presentations to business and technology partners, senior management and executives, selecting the appropriate approach based on the audience
  • Resolves conflicts/issues and escalates others as appropriate
  • Manages the operations with 3rd party vendors

Managerial Excellence:

  • Promotes collaboration and partnering to develop and meet core project objectives
  • Executes Performance Management processes, including ensuring development plans & performance reviews are in place
  • Selects & builds a high performing diverse team that leverages individual capabilities & strengths
  • Ensures team has adequate training, consulting and tools to deliver objectives
  • Provides expertise, direction, coaching and development to build the team capability
    in areas such as QE, Agile, DevOps and other CNB processes and practices
  • Promotes a mindset for sustained success, growth and diversity
  • Supports senior management in the development of workforce skill sets in order to meet transformation needs and achieve strategic goals
  • Designs and executes continuous improvement of processes to nurture team productivity

Projects and Initiatives:

  • Accountable to work with project teams in the implementation of the nonfunctional aspects of test strategies across the application lifecycle, utilizing QE processes and tools
  • Accountable for coverage and efficiency in program/projects nonfunctional test plans within area of control
  • Responsible for maximizing automation for all project non-functional testing deliverables in portfolio
  • Responsible for following defined processes and tools and alignment with overall QE strategy and framework
  • Responsible for providing accurate and detailed quality status to project team and stakeholders
  • Partner with Application Development Managers to integrate quality engineering mindset/concepts within the DevOps framework/pipeline
  • Responsible for coaching, mentoring, training and day to day interaction with a team of QE practitioners

Basic Qualification

  • Minimum 10 years of experience developing and implementing nonfunctional program/project testing strategies including but not limited to performance, security and operability
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience working with Non-Functional Testing tools (HP LoadRunner, JMeter, HP Fortify, application monitoring tools (Dynatrace, AppDynamics) , etc.)
    * Minimum 5+ experience in performance engineering activities including load work modelling and application monitoring, test scripting and results analysis
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience with leveraging service and network virtualization for Performance Testing

Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience with Performance testing for mobile devices and cross browser
  • Experience in DevOps operations and test integration, processes and tools
  • Strong knowledge of methodologies, frameworks and best practices (Agile and Iterative Waterfall etc.)
  • Experience in assisting Business/Product Management team on Non Functional Requirement gathering and analysis from performance and security perspective
  • Experience with Performance risk assessment and defining performance objectives, Performance Test strategy and Performance test approach for in Agile and Non-agile projects
  • Experience with identifying components for Component level testing in Development environment along with application team and establishing component testing processes from performance perspective for both agile and non-agile projects
  • Experience with identifying transactions for transaction level testing along with application team and establishing transaction/application level testing processes from performance perspective
  • Experience with Mobile ready Performance testing tools and associated protocols such as "True Client" protocols
  • Experience using source configuration tools (GIT, etc.)
    Hands-on programming experience (e.g., Java, C, SQL DB querying)
  • Experience reviewing artefacts including code reviews (application and test automation scripts)
  • Experience as a developer
  • Experience with cloud solutions such as ElasticSearch and Kafka and frameworks such as Spring
  • Very good communication skills; ability to focus and prioritize and solve complex technical problems
  • Computer Engineering, Computer Science, related (technical) degree/diploma, or related breadth of experience
